This is a great opportunity for an experienced Manager to take up an important leadership position within ACON and the broader NSW HIV sector.
- Use your leadership, strategic thinking, relationship, and operational management skills to deliver ACON’s HIV and STI testing through our world-renowned a[TEST] services.
- Lead and inspire a team to provide innovative services to improve the health and wellbeing of gay, bisexual, and queer men though our sexualised drug use and HIV support programs.

- Operate from a health equity lens to lead the development and implementation of new policies, processes, and strategies to address health access and improve health outcomes for underserved populations in our community
The Role
This position is an important leadership position within ACON and the broader NSW HIV sector. The occupant of the position must have a well-developed understanding of HIV and Sexual Health, the populations ACON serves, and the strategic context within which ACON operates – being NSW’s largest and leading HIV and health promotion organisation for people of diverse sexualities and genders.
More specifically, the position has direct management responsibility for a range of HIV and Sexual Health Programs targeting gay, bisexual, and other men who has sex with men (GBMSM) in NSW. Together with the Director of HIV and Sexual Health and other Managers in the HIV and Sexual Health Division, the Manager, Gay Men’s Sexual Health Programs has significant responsibilities for achieving results outlined in the ACON Strategic Plan 2019 – 2024.
This role requires skilful partnership management and the ability to represent ACON and community interests professionally and productively. A critical element of this role is ongoing relationship management with a range of stakeholders, including clinical, research and academic partners, government, and other state-wide organisations. Strategic thinking, innovation and a strong commitment to sexual health for GBMSM are valuable skills and attributes in this role.
The HIV and Sexual Health Division aims to reduce HIV and STI transmissions by providing programs that strengthen GBMSM’s understanding of sexual health, focussing on HIV testing, prevention, and support. The Unit has a role to engage key sub-populations of GBMSM, demonstrating expertise and leadership in NSW in working with specific groups of gay and bisexual men, and other men who have sex with men at risk of HIV in NSW.
A high-profile area of responsibility of this role is the effective management of ACON’s community-based rapid HIV testing service – a[TEST] which operates through clinical partnerships with the Local Health Districts.
Another key aspect of this role is developing programmatic activities around sexualised drug use and support for newly diagnosed people living with HIV.
