Western Chances empowers young people from Melbourne’s west who are facing financial barriers to achieve their potential. We assist talented and motivated young people by providing scholarships, opportunity programs and ongoing support. We have a strong track record of success and since first awarding scholarships in 2004, we have invested $8 million in Melbourne’s west, awarding over 8,000 scholarships and empowering over 3,500 young people.

About the role
Reporting to the Program Manager, the two new Program Coordinators will work closely with the Western Chances team to deliver our vision of helping young people realise their potential. This includes assisting to deliver Western Chances’ Scholarship Program, Links Program and holistic ongoing support for our scholarship recipients and alumni.
These roles will focus on the delivery of a structured plan of engagement with schools to identify and support up to 1,000 young people per year across Melbourne’s west. This will also include working with Links collaborators to connect young people with life changing opportunities.
You will be responsible for:
- Administering the Scholarship Program including assessing applications and awarding scholarships to young people,
- Implementing a plan of school engagement to grow Western Chances’ Scholarship Program in allocated schools,
- Developing a wide variety of relationships with scholarship nominators in schools and advocates at collaborating Links partners to identify eligible young people and connect them to support.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A passion for empowering young people,
- Relevant qualification or experience in community development or program delivery,
- Proven ability to develop relationships with people from a diverse range of organisations,
- A problem solving attitude and ability to prioritise your time to achieve outcomes,
- Excellent communication skills, both interpersonal and written.
