About the organisation
The Karrkad Kanjdji Trust (KKT) brings together Indigenous landowners and like-minded supporters to address the most pressing issues for Arnhem Land, our nation, and the world at large. These include regenerating our natural environment, taking action on climate change, creating meaningful and equal employment opportunities and supporting the continuation of the world’s oldest living culture.
We work with Indigenous rangers in one of the most culturally rich and biodiverse regions of Australia, Arnhem Land. Every project we support is 100 per cent community-owned, from concept to implementation. KKT was established by Traditional Owners of the Warddeken and Djelk Indigenous Protected Areas in 2010. Our name, Karrkad Kanjdji (pronounced gada-gut guny-jee), refers to the stone country highlands and savanna lowlands of Arnhem Land, that we work together to protect.
Today, KKT is working with four Indigenous ranger groups, who manage roughly 50,000 square kilometres of Country. Our approach to conservation is holistic - each project we support strengthens the ability of communities to manage their natural and cultural assets.
