AOPA is the peak professional body for orthotist/prosthetists in Australia. AOPA’s main function is self-regulation of the orthotic/prosthetic profession nationally and advocacy and representation activities. Additionally, AOPA provides a range of member services, including education events, online resources, and professional support.

With a membership base of 500+, representing more than 89% of the practicing profession, AOPA has an important role in raising the profile and the voice of orthotist/prosthetists. This vision to raise the professional profile, advocate for workforce growth and development and enhance the policies and funding guidelines in which practitioners operate is reflected in the previous 2017-2022 strategic plan, and the forward agenda of the incoming 2023-2025 strategic plan.

The CEO position is an important leadership role on behalf of the organisation and its members at both the national and international level. The AOPA CEO is expected to lead the way and play a pivotal role in raising the profile of the profession, including building important and strategic relationships.

Reporting to the Board, the successful applicant will be responsible for aligning operational activities to the organisation’s objectives. The successful applicant will be responsible for day-to-day management of AOPA and be accountable for achieving the strategic priorities as set by the Board. Further, the CEO will build the reputation of AOPA, advocate for the profession, ensure the delivery of effective and efficient operations, maintain financial sustainability, and consistently provide high-level, accurate and timely advice to the AOPA Board.

To be successful you will have an open, authentic, and responsive style of leadership with the ability to inspire and connect. Your well-developed diplomacy, negotiation, and collaboration capabilities will be essential for undertaking complex advocacy activities. You will have a proven track record in association management, preferably at the national level and in the health sector. In addition, the ideal candidate will have knowledge of the Australian health and disability systems, including a sound understanding of the policy settings in which orthotist/prosthetists work and the profession’s regulatory status.
