The Opportunity

A rare opportunity has emerged for a talented software developer who wants to be part of a digital transformation project that is changing the game of data exchange in the health sector.

Our client is a pioneer in gene research with a national and international reputation for performing highly influential basic and translational research.  Their mission is to inform individualised care for all Australians so illnesses can be detected from birth, treated and in many cases cured.

The Role

Reporting to the Innovation Manager, this role is responsible for improving various methods, tools, applications and systems for a bespoke software program developed to revolutionise the way gene data is accessed, stored and shared across various clinical environments. To assist them in continuing to develop this innovative technology, they are seeking an experienced Software Developer to join their team initially starting on a fixed term 12-month contract, with the potential to extend to another two years.

Specifically, you will be required to:
  • Utilise your knowledge of Amazon Web Services (Serverless Architecture) and Python to improve existing applications; and develop processes to support end to end testing (Practical experience working with AWS, Java and Python are an essential requirement)
  • Develop methods, tools, processes, and systems that aid the technical integration and interoperability functions of clinical information systems, such as EMRs and LIMS
  • Design and implement tools, methods, and infrastructure to improve the bespoke software system
  • Develop secure technical solutions to protect sensitive data
  • Support external stakeholders with workflow and quality assurance testing
  • Work closely with the project team which include digital-health project managers, data analysts and bioinformaticians
  • Develop solutions that are easily scalable that meet the needs of clinical stakeholders

The Candidate

To be successful in this role you will have:
  • Tertiary Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or equivalent
  • Industry experience and working knowledge of Python, AWS, Restful APIs and Java at the minimum
  • Relevant software development experience ideally working in the Healthcare sector on clinical data sharing solutions or similar
  • Practical experience working with complex data sets
  • Willingness to learn and adopt other software development frameworks and tools related specifically to the healthcare sector, such as HSL7, FHIR and other messaging services
  • Competency working in UNIX environments and using Shell Scripts (ideal though not completely essential)

There will also be projects relating to front-end development of websites and web portals so candidates with front-end software development experience are also encouraged to apply, however AWS and Java working knowledge is essential at a minimum.

The Offer

This role is a full time, 1-year Fixed-Term contract with the potential to extend to an additional 2 years. The office is located on the outskirts of the CBD with flexible working arrangements on offer.

This role is paying up to $140K plus Super (commensurate with experience) plus PBI/NFP salary packaging, and 17% Superannuation contribution at the successful completion of the Probationary period.

This role will not be available for long so please Apply today with your CV in Word format. To discuss this opportunity in confidence, contact Manelle Connelly Senior Consultant at Johnson Recruitment on 0428 679 060.
