About the organisation

Organisation Name : Tomorrow Man & Tomorrow Woman

When we set out on the Tomorrow Woman Tomorrow Man (TW TM) journey over 5 years ago, none of us expected things to be where they are today! Today, TW TM works in secondary schools, sports clubs and communities around Australia, supporting:

  • Girls & women to ignite their voices, giving them tools to challenge the narrow expectations placed on them so they can live fuller and bolder lives, and;
  • Boys & men to build their emotional muscle, talk with gravity and challenge outdated stereotypes by having the courage to be vulnerable

Our mission has always been to create engaging environments for men & women, young and otherwise, and from all walks of life, to challenge what it is to be a man or a woman in today’s world. We seek out and embody an aspirational, modern alternative to push back on stereotypes, expectations and pressure, and create a more flexible version of tomorrow's man/woman that resonates and speaks to the mainstream, while giving people the tools to decide on the person they want to be.

We’ve taken the same approach to building our organisation, challenging norms in service of creating a deliberately developmental environment - one that leverages our spikes and allows space to grow on our edges. After all, who are we to ask our participants to grow if not willing to ask the same of ourselves…

And so here we are, a learning & development based social enterprise that’s grown substantially against all measures - team size, national footprint, workshop output and participant & community impact. This year we will deliver close to 1,800 workshops and have impacted over 120,000 people since inception. While we know there’s so much more we can do, we’re proud of what we’ve created and we think you will be too.

About the role

This is a significant evolution to our senior leadership structure. As our existing COO steps into another internal role, the GM – TM TW will take the reigns, with a mandate for strategic growth & development, managing business operations and driving operational efficiencies & excellence.

The above is all well & good, but let’s break down what that actually means. We’ve categorised the scope of the role into 5 key areas:

1. People

You’ll lead a direct team of incredible humans that head our program operations in each of our hubs (there are 3 nationally). They do it all – book the program, hold relationships with our customers & funders, lead & support the facilitation teams, and so much more. Your job will be to ensure they, and their teams, are supported by your leadership, set up for success in their roles, are challenged to achieve strategic objectives and are continually striving for professional and personal growth against their development edges. It’s no accident that we’ve listed this component of your role here first, as they’re so important to us.

2. Strategy & Finance

We count ourselves lucky to have two CEOs with incredible vision, and an entire team willing to contribute. We’d love to add your ideas to that mix. We know what got us here, won’t get us there – and your role will be jointly responsible for dreaming up what’s possible for TM TW. But there’s a catch! All great ideas need action, and you’ll be responsible for turning dreams into reality.

With external support, you’ll hold the annual budgeting process, oversee day-to-day finance and keep razor sharp sight on the business’ financial performance. To be clear, we’re not about generating huge profits. Rather, we want to ensure there’s suitable surplus to maintain business stability.

3. Programs & Marketing

Firstly, you’ll oversee the smooth & flawless execution of our programs, while driving delivery against specific impact, financial & growth objectives. So, you’ll inherently be across the numbers, but also support the team (as is needed) with any major customer requirements, program & content evolution and innovation. You’ll also work closely with our Marketing Manager (and team) to refine & improve both our customer & consumer go-to-market approaches, taking them to another level of sophistication.

4. Process

We’ve come a long way on ‘the how’ we do things, and the systems & processes that have enabled our growth. But we never want to stand still, and so, you’ll be charged with ensuring continuous improvement in service of operational efficiency gains, with regular curiosity, upstream thinking and interrogation of all business processes.

5. Funders & Funding

We’re a social enterprise based on a hybrid revenue model. We generate our own income, but we’re also supported by some pretty bloody amazing people & organisations. You will be critical in managing major funder relationships. You’ll need to be ‘in the trenches’ with them, take the time to understand their objectives and growth plans, and ensure alignment. With this said, you’ll also be required to identify, engage & secure additional funding relationships for the organisation – however big or small.

ABOUT YOU

Before we talk about what you’ve done, let’s talk about who you are…

You’re just a good human being with a big heart, and an innate passion for seeing the lives of people change for the better. Irrespective of your experience, you’re humble, kind and up for going on your own journey as a leader and human.

And as to what you’ve done, you have…

  • Senior strategic & operational leadership experience, ideally as a GM, COO or CEO, having led small-to-medium sized organisations, either in the commercial, social enterprise or NFP sectors
  • Tertiary qualifications in Business, Commerce, Finance or equivalent work experience
  • High-level commercial & financial acumen – i.e detailed understanding of a P&L, budgets, taxation and all the levers to drive sustained financial performance. We operate on Xero, so you’ll need to be across this.
  • Curiosity, the ability to ask second & third questions and to sense and respond to what’s happening for your team and the business, so as to uncover issues, development or growth opportunities for both
  • A balance of genuine empathy, compassion and care for the humans you lead, and the capability to drive the businesses operational & strategic agenda
  • The ability to keep informed, manage multiple competing priorities in a highly dynamic environment and the ability to make decisions independently
  • Systems-based thinking with a dynamic & persuasive communication style that leads to performance & change in a simple, relevant & effective way.
  • Effective time management and organisation skills with proven ability to define deadlines and deliver results.
  • Demonstrated experience working with a diverse range of stakeholders – schools and community organisations would be of some benefit
