About the role
The Senior Reporter – Melbourne Zoo, is a critical recruit who is responsible for identifying and generating publicity which tells the stories of the animals in our care, our recovery programs and conservation work, plus campaigns, activities, events and people, with a particular focus on iconic Melbourne Zoo, which is celebrating its 160th birthday this year. This role contributes to creating awareness of and inspiring action to help threatened species at risk of extinction, and as such, is a role well matched to a values-driven conservationist or wildlife enthusiast.
As part of the Digital Newsroom (publicity) team, the Senior Reporter – Melbourne Zoo will proactively identify public relations opportunities for Melbourne Zoo and liaise with the other Senior Reporters to ensure a coordinated approach to pitching stories to traditional media and digital channels.
The successful applicant will have superb writing skills and a keen eye for newsworthy content preferably honed through journalism or media experience, an excellent working knowledge of traditional and new media, a proven ability to work in cross-functional teams, be highly organised, and have a demonstrated passion for wildlife and the environment.
