Telstra Health is proud to work collaboratively with the Australian Government and specialist partners for the delivery of 1800RESPECT from 1 July 2022, as the national front door for people experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV) and workplace sexual harassment (WSH).
Vision: to achieve a significant reduction across the Australian community in the prevalence and impacts of domestic, family and sexual violence, including workplace sexual harassment – by improving first response processes, national sector integration, service reach and responsiveness to diverse groups; by strengthening community engagement; and by continuous enhancement of staff skills and technology.
Mission: to deliver a free, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week national service that provides information, counselling support and referrals to people experiencing, or at risk of, domestic, family and sexual violence, including workplace sexual harassment.
Purpose: to provide an accessible, high quality, clinically informed and evidence-based service that meets the diverse needs and complex considerations of individuals seeking support.
About the role
We have openings for Team Leaders who will provide advice and leadership to First Responder counselling staff to deliver quality services.
Team Leaders will need to be available across a 24/7 roster, which will include evening and overnight shifts.
Please note the current roles are available on a 12 week secondment basis with an opportunity to go permanent in future. You must be available for full time work or at least a minimum of 30 hours per week.
As a Team Leader, you will help achieve sustained reduction in the prevalence and impacts of domestic, family and sexual violence and workplace sexual harassment through:
Service Delivery: You will be the first point of contact for your team of First Response Counsellor’s and will need to manage the day-to-day delivery of the service within your team, managing escalated issues, providing coaching and making decisions related to service delivery.
Stakeholder Engagement: You will need to build strong relationships to support a transparent and inclusive work environment. You will maintain and develop your own knowledge in your area of expertise, ensuring you remain up to date on current practice guidelines.
Training & Development: You will be responsible for the development of your team through mentoring, coaching, training and empowering them in alignment with the 1800RESPECT Professional Development Model.
People Leadership: You will be expected to participate in program-wide activities, including attending staff meetings and supporting your team’s wellbeing and development goals.
About you:
You must be able to meet the following criteria:
- A completed minimum bachelor’s degree from an approved provider (Approved courses can be found via the relevant peak body).
- Minimum 4 years trauma counselling experience (preferably telephone counselling) or full-time equivalent experience in specialised sexual assault, domestic and family violence counselling.
- Demonstrated experience in supervision and coaching of team member to enhance both practice skills and professional knowledge.
- Capacity to work and support staff, whilst remaining calm and embedding self-care practices.
- Ability to rapidly develop a thorough knowledge of 1800RESPECT’s delivery model, including counselling model, policies and procedures.
- A robust understanding of federal and state-based legislation, including child protection legislation relevant to service delivery.
- Demonstrated understanding and experience of quality practice standards and understanding process involved in compliance.
Additional requirements:
- Must be a qualified counsellor registered with either the Australian Counselling Association (Level 3 or above) or Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA- Clinical); or
- be qualified social worker registered with full AASW membership; or
- be registered psychologists with AHPRA (General)
- Hold Current Working with Children Checks, or the capacity to obtain prior to commencement.
- Ability to work flexibly, including working from home and the 1800RESPECT office location when required
- A private room/space which can be used for your home office set up

- Willingness to work a variety of shifts and outside of normal business hours on occasions to meet operational requirements.
