Its purpose is to support veterans and their families by connecting them to services to improve their wellbeing, and assist former Australian and allied veterans and families by connecting to them to their local community, through camaraderie, mateship, recreation, and commemorating service.
The organisation has over 25,000 members in 320 sub-Branches throughout New South Wales and is incorporated under a NSW Act of Parliament.
Based in the heart of the Sydney CBD, the RSL NSW head office has a team of dynamic professionals and a vibrant office culture. About the role

RSL NSW is looking for a General Counsel to join the small executive team. The position reports to the CEO and is responsible for providing legal and compliance advice to support the organisation in its processes and decision making. An integral senior role with one report, the role also oversees outsourcing of advice to RSL’s external lawyers.
They’re after an individual committed to the RSL NSW values, who can engage well with their volunteer [and branch] network. An ability to be able to explain complex legal concepts simply and provide advice that facilitates the organisation’s progress through its strategic plan, is important. A solid understanding of Trusts and Commercial Contracts is necessary, also the ability to communicate confidently and authentically to a range of audiences. Prudent budget management, being comfortable operating in an environment that isn’t always black or white, is important. Success in this role includes the ability to see the big picture and contribute strategically while also being able to ‘roll up sleeves’ when necessary.
This role might suit an experienced lawyer who is looking to move into the for-purpose space, or wanting a break from a large corporate firm. It’s important that candidates bring solid experience as well as an ability to be flexible when necessary as they contribute and work with a range of stakeholders within a complex, unique, landmark organisation.
