About the organisation
The Karrkad Kanjdji Trust (“gada-gut guny-jee” or KKT) works to protect, restore and enhance the unique natural environment of West and Central Arnhem Land, NT.
KKT is an Indigenous conservation trust established by Traditional Owners of the Warddeken and Djelk Indigenous Protected Areas in 2010. Our name refers to the stone country highlands (karrkad) and savanna lowlands (kanjdji) of Arnhem Land that we work together to protect. We act as the philanthropic fundraising arm of the region’s Indigenous ranger groups by partnering closely with on-ground land management organisations and responding to their needs with the support of like minded individuals, trusts, foundations and corporations. Our shared vision is for Indigenous people to be connected to and caring for Country, safeguarding vital ecosystems for future generations.
Today, KKT is working with around one third of Arnhem Land’s Indigenous ranger groups, who manage over 50,000 square kilometres of Country. Our approach to conservation is holistic: each project we support strengthens the ability of communities to manage their own natural and cultural assets. Our projects span six key focus areas: protecting native biodiversity, managing fire and climate, investing in women rangers, safeguarding Indigenous culture, supporting people on Country and educating future custodians.

About the role
The Grant Writer and Coordinator is integral to keeping track of the latest progress and stories from every project KKT supports, and effectively sharing this information with the KKT team, Trusts, Foundations and supporters. This person will primarily be responsible for identifying what information is required from our partners and when, collating that information effectively and sharing updates on key developments for different audiences – primarily in writing – with the objective of supporting the continued growth of KKT’s fundraising income.

KKT is also committed to the professional growth and development of its staff and will support this where possible.
All KKT staff are expected to adhere to KKT policies and procedures including Privacy, Working With Children, and Work Health and Safety, and to demonstrate KKT’s values in their approach to work (Aboriginal-led, working with heart, transparent and adaptive, respect for interconnectedness, future focused).
Key responsibilities and duties
The Grant Writer and Coordinator will:
-
Research and identify opportunities to apply for funding for different projects, develop strategies for engaging potential funders, and writing grant applications to secure funding

-
Effectively manage a portfolio of grant funders from initial identification, to cultivating a relationship, asking for support and deepening the relationship over time
-
Provide fundraising support to the CEO to help grow and maintain relationships with a wider community of supporters, including writing general proposals and reports
-
Support other KKT staff in writing grant applications and acquitting grant funding
-
Coordinate end-of-grant acquittal reports in line with the obligations and recognition requires of KKT funders, including financial and/or outcomes-based reports
-
Review grant-related systems and processes, leading the development of any necessary changes and training others to use these systems effectively
-
Contribute to organisational and board reporting
-
Other duties, as required from time to time, consistent with the position grading and candidate’s skills
