Organisation Name : The Healing Foundation

The Healing Foundation (THF) is a national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisation that provides a platform to amplify the voices and lived experience of Stolen Generations survivors and their families.

The organisation’s focus is on promoting trauma-aware, healing-informed practice so that governments, policymakers, and workforces understand their role in urgent intergenerational healing. The Healing Foundation are governed by a First Nations Board and Executive and guided in our work by our Stolen Generations and Youth Reference Groups.

About the role

The continued success and growth of THF has led to this position becoming available. This role will work closely with the CEO and the Executive Team. With two direct reports the Deputy CEO (DCEO) will focus on Engagement & Delivery and Evidence and Impact Team functions nationally. THF enjoy an excellent reputation for survivor-led healing knowledge gathering, promotion, and translation across sectors and are looking to further their offerings to community, as they continue to lead the intergenerational healing movement.

  • Have the opportunity to be involved in the new strategic plan for the organisation
  • Be involved in the creation and delivery of new services lines, to reach tertiary education and commercial business sectors
  • Continue to develop and promote truthtelling in the school resource kit national rollout
  • Share their good work through strong reporting and communication models to THF funders and supporters
  • Help take THF to the next phase of growth

The DCEO will have proven leadership experience in an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander context in either the not-for-profit arena, government, or corporate organisations. In partnership with the CEO, the role will need to lead by example to engage in robust, issues-based discussions in the interests of advocating for trauma-aware healing-informed legislation, policies, programs and workforce sector and system settings.

  • Represent the Healing Foundation in forums and public events in conjunction with the CEO
  • At times act on behalf of the CEO as the face and voice of THF

Establish, lead and maintain strong senior stakeholder relationships, including with leaders in local government and industry:

  • Initiate, cultivate, and extend relationships with existing and new funding bodies and supporters
  • Oversee the performance and delivery of external facing business streams
  • Lead and present key reporting and analysis to the Board and Funding Bodies, in line with THF’s regulatory and governance requirements
  • Participate in community events to promote awareness of THF’s vision, mission and values

The Ideal Person

This is a key leadership role as part of the Executive team. The role requires an experienced senior manager with high emotional intelligence and demonstrated capability to motivate and guide a highly capable team. Key competencies and experience required include:

  • Demonstrated strong understanding and commitment to advancing national self-determined agendas of First Nations peoples, and demonstrated high-level knowledge and skill in strategy, engagement, cultural safety and advocacy
  • Significant demonstrated professional experience in corporate and community sectors
  • Business development experience with ability to identify and secure streams of revenue and funding
  • Experience managing programs within a not-for-profit organisation, and applying a “roll up the sleeves and get it done” approach
  • A current and valid WWVP Card and up to date Covid-19 vaccinations are mandatory, as this position will see you working with vulnerable members of the community

Salary

  • $185k – $200k + Super + Full PBI
  • This is a full-time position, with a 3 year fixed term contract. THF have a 50:50 hybrid working model
  • This is a Canberra based position with travel expected to be approx. 1 week per month
