Our mission is to build a vibrant community of best-practice fundraisers and a culture of professional fundraising. About the role
Fundraising Institute Australia
Fundraising Institute Australia (FIA) is seeking to appoint a new consumer representative to the FIA Code Authority. FIA is the peak industry body for professional charitable fundraising in Australia. We are the leading provider of fundraising education and training in Australia, and we champion and facilitate ethical practice in fundraising with a self-regulatory code of conduct for the sector, the FIA Code.
The FIA Code Authority
The FIA Code Authority is responsible for the effective operation and administration of the FIA Code. We know from our long history – over 50 years as the peak body for fundraising – that the sector needs a strong, independent, and credible body to administer the Code in the interests of improving donor care and curbing any practices that undermine donor trust, confidence and support for charitable giving and the charitable fundraising sector. The Code Authority supports compliance with the Code by proactively monitoring activities of Members, ensures complaints against Members are managed effectively and fairly, and assists FIA in the promotion of the Code including the development of training and education to advance ethical best practices in the sector.
Responsibilities/Tasks
The consumer/donor representative is responsible for representing the needs of consumers/donors on the FIA Code Authority and contributing to the Code Authority through a consumer perspective. The Code Authority usually meets four times a year with a sitting fee per meeting. The first three meetings are usually via Zoom with the final one being in-person in Sydney, NSW at the FIA Chatswood office. Typical preparation for meetings involves about 2-3 hours of reading and each meeting usually runs for about 3-4 hours depending on the agenda with a modest sitting fee provided for each meeting.
Selection Criteria
- Experience and leadership in consumer representation, with ability to champion consumer/donor perspectives on the FIA Code Authority.
- A broad understanding of regulatory and/or self-regulatory frameworks, and knowledge of charitable fundraising or the charity sector are ideal but not essential.
- Passionate about advancing ethical best practices in charitable fundraising and governance through the FIA Code.
