About the organisation
Fish Nankivell is pleased to be partnering with the Scanlon Foundation who are seeking an experienced Director, Community Development to join their team. As the only philanthropic organisation in Australia that is dedicated to social cohesion, you will contribute to strengthening and assessing the core objectives of the Foundation.
The Scanlon Foundation was established in 2002 as a Private Ancillary Fund and is governed by a Board of Trustees.
About the role
In this role, you will be executing the Foundation’s mission to advance Australia as a welcoming, diverse and productive nation with a particular focus on the transition of migrants into Australian society. We are searching for a candidate with extensive knowledge of migrant communities, with a preference for those that have a lived experience themselves. You will have a strong preference for working in a collaborative, team-based environment. Working alongside internal colleagues, key stakeholders, members of the Board and grantees.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Engage with community-based organisations and individuals to advance, and conduct ongoing reviews of, the Foundation’s community development plans and engagement programs
- Manage the Scanlon Foundation’s commitment to grant distribution, including grant applications and disbursements for both small and large scale initiatives
- Contribute to strategically planning for the future of the Foundation and its programs
- Report and represent the Foundation in presentations as required, including reporting to the Grants Committee
- Ability to work in a team-based environment, that supports and champions others
Experience Sought
- Extensive and consistent experience in engaging with minority communities and in cross-cultural community development across Australia.
- Experiencing from your personal heritage, or from significant lived experience in a communities from non-English speaking backgrounds
- Experience in liaising, organising and managing projects and initiatives
- Capacity to comprehend, synthesise and analyse research and data to better understand and identify areas to focus initiatives.
- Significant comprehension of migration, the experience of migrant communities as well as interactions with the institutions and systems within Australian society
- Experience with the research involved in grant processes and management of each stage of selecting disbursements
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, bilingualism or multilingualism would be highly regarded.
To be successful, you must be able to demonstrate:
- Prior experience in a senior leadership role
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of social cohesion and the complexities that migrant communities may be presented with
- Lived experience in one or more non-European countries
- The ability to use sound project management skills to manage diverse responsibilities
- A relationship driven mentality with experience working in an intimate team to manage integral partnerships to deliver quality outcomes
- The ability to deploy excellent soft negotiation skills to represent the Foundation both internally and externally
A University degree qualification in either social sciences or community development is preferred.
