About the organisation
About the organisation
The Responsible Investment Association Australasia (RIAA) champions responsible investing and a sustainable financial system in Australia and New Zealand. RIAA is dedicated to ensuring capital is aligned with achieving a healthy society, environment and economy.
With over 500 members managing more than $29 trillion in assets globally, RIAA is the largest and most active network of people and organisations engaged in responsible, ethical and impact investing across Australia and New Zealand.
Our membership includes super funds, fund managers, banks, consultants, researchers, brokers, impact investors, property managers, trusts, foundations, faith-based groups, financial advisers and individuals.
We are a mission focused organisation working with our members to drive greater sustainability through finance, with a growing collegiate team headquartered in Melbourne with staff also located in New Zealand and Sydney. We work collaboratively, respecting one another and valuing flexible working conditions. We are self-driven, take responsibility, and are professional. We are passionate about and enjoy what we do, and we strive to make an impact.
RIAA’s Policy and Advocacy Program is pro-active, responsive and professional. It leverages RIAA’s members’ expertise and strategic collaborations to carry substantial influence with policymakers and regulators of Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand in support of a financial system that delivers a more sustainable environment, society and economy. The Policy and Advocacy Program is a key mechanism for RIAA to lift and embed minimum mandated standards of responsible investment in Australasia and influence global responsible investment norms. In addition to finance sector policy, the Program intersects with sustainability issues such as climate change, nature and biodiversity protection, disclosures, human rights, modern slavery, First Nations Peoples’ Rights and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.
Globally, responsible investment-related policy is rapidly developing, with evolving standards and regulation in areas such as disclosure, definitions, labelling and taxonomies, and international bodies are aligning and standardising their approaches. Australian and New Zealand regulators are taking a greater interest in responsible investment and focusing on addressing the risk of greenwashing in the sector. Within this context, with over 20 years’ work in the responsible, sustainable and ethical investment space, RIAA has driven much of the formative momentum in this policy area and is well-positioned to drive standards of responsible investment that align with real sustainability outcomes and encourage a policy and regulatory environment that drives the financial system to deliver solutions to our environmental, social and economic challenges.
