About the Role
You will take a Senior role in a growing team to create meaningful impact through philanthropic support for Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences faculties. You will be responsible for securing significant philanthropic gifts from individuals, charitable trusts, foundations and corporations for the University in the $500K+ range. You will provide leadership to HASS colleagues and collaborate with fundraising peers on donor engagement, gift solicitation and donor stewardship.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Take a lead on personal fundraising at Major and Principal Gift level
- Work closely with academic peers to identify and develop projects for funding
- Use your excellent people management skills to inspire a high achieving fundraising team
- Act as Donor Relations lead for the HASS cluster of Faculties
Who we are looking for
You’re passionate about building strong relationships, and have a successful track record of negotiating and influencing effectively. You’re skilled at identifying and developing relatable fundraising products, and comfortable at bringing concepts to life for a target market of supporters. You work effectively as a team member, sharing information in a collegial manner. And you support all of these skills with your outstanding verbal and written communications skills.
You will also have:
- An appropriate tertiary degree qualification and/or relevant experience in a role with a significant fundraising component.
- Demonstrated experience of working to develop and execute a successful, relationship-driven fundraising (or engagement/sales) strategy, particularly as it relates to individual or organisational investment of $500,000 or more.
- A personal track record in identifying, researching, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding relationships, both independently and as part of a team. Proven success at closing the deal.
- Demonstrable record of operating successfully in a large and complex organisation, with an ability to identify opportunity in complex scenarios, seeing ways to collaborate across teams for greater return.
- Experience in managing high performing individuals, and in crafting pathways for professional development.

Your new team – “HASS – Advancement“
The Advancement Office aims to facilitate the establishment and maintenance of mutually beneficial relationships between the University and its alumni, friends, and benefactors. It is responsible for the management of programs relating to alumni and benefactors and provides services to and works collaboratively with faculties and other central administration areas.
The Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (HASS) cluster provides philanthropic fundraising and alumni and stakeholder engagement services to five Faculties: Arts, Fine Arts & Music (FFAM), Business & Economics (FBE), Melbourne Law School (MLS), and Melbourne Graduate School of Education (MGSE). As part of the University’s Advancement team, the HASS cluster is a team of around 10 staff, who work collectively as required but have individual responsibilities for delivery.
