About the Role
You will join a growing team to create meaningful impact on the philanthropic landscape of the University in general, and specifically for Australia’s #1 law school, the Melbourne Law School. You will be responsible for securing significant philanthropic gifts from individuals, charitable trusts, foundations and corporations for the University in the $100,000-$500,000 range. You will have the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a complex environment, supporting innovative and leading research in HASS faculties.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Manage and develop a portfolio of 100-120 prospective major donors, with a focus on prospective donors capable of making major gifts ($100K+).
- Working with fundraising colleagues, develop an annual plan to identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit prospective major gift donors in support of philanthropic priorities focusing on opportunities for gifts above $100,000.
- Working with Academic and Advancement leaders, identify and agree on fundraising priorities for the faculty and advise on how these might align with broader University-wide fundraising priorities.
Who we are looking for
Are you passionate about building strong relationships, and have a successful track record of negotiating and influencing effectively? Can you work with a broad range of teams to identify and create opportunities? You should also be able to work effectively as a team member and to share information in a collegial manner, with outstanding verbal and written communications skills.
- Appropriate qualifications and/or relevant experience in a role with a significant for-purpose component.
- Demonstrated experience of working to develop and execute a successful, relationship-driven fundraising (or engagement/sales) strategy.
- A track record in identifying, researching, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding relationships, both independently and as part of a team.

Your new team – “HASS – Advancement“
The Advancement Office aims to facilitate the establishment and maintenance of mutually beneficial relationships between the University and its alumni, friends, and benefactors. It is responsible for the management of programs relating to alumni and benefactors and provides services to and works collaboratively with faculties and other central administration areas.
The Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (HASS) cluster provides philanthropic fundraising and alumni and stakeholder engagement services to five Faculties: Arts, Fine Arts & Music (FFAM), Business & Economics (FBE), Melbourne Law School (MLS), and Melbourne Graduate School of Education (MGSE). As part of the University’s Advancement team, the HASS cluster is a team of around 10 staff, who work collectively as required but have individual responsibilities for delivery.
