Ocean Mind is a therapeutic surfing charity that enriches people’s mental health, relationships and potential through surfing. Volunteer Board Director- Ocean Mind
About Us:
Ocean Mind aims to enrich young people’s mental health, relationships and potential through surfing. Our programs improve the wellbeing of young people by developing life skills and the ability to create beneficial relationships, whilst increasing the capacity of the community to support young people’s mental health. We offer therapeutic surfing programs using an evidence-based model which has demonstrated outstanding results in helping young people who are experiencing difficulties. The Role:
Ocean Mind are looking for enthusiastic and committed directors who can support the growth of the organisation, through providing good governance, expertise and commitment.
The Ocean Mind Board is interested in talking with exceptional leaders who have experience in developing a growing not for profit, with a quality local reputation. If you are interested in serving on a hard-working board of Directors we are particularly seeking expressions of interest from people with professional skills and experience in at least one of the following:
- Fundraising and philanthropy
- Marketing
- Governance
In particular, Ocean Mind is looking for directors who are willing to leverage their networks to support Ocean Mind, and assist to develop our funding strategies into a sustainable approach that can deliver our strategic goals and grow with us.
Experience in governance on a board of a similar, fast growing organisation would be highly valued, along with an ability to expand Ocean Mind’s network in the mental health and corporate communities.
Ocean Mind board directors are expected to:
- provide effective leadership and collaborate with the CEO and Chair
- identify and manage critical risks to Ocean Mind
- keep stakeholders informed;
- monitor Ocean Mind performance;
- provide independent strategic advice to the Board.
- actively support the fundraising efforts of the organisation
Board members would need to be able to make a 2 yr plus commitment to the role, and can expect to spend 2-4 hrs per month on average supporting the growing organisation.
