SHINE for Kids is the only national charity to provide services to support children and young people from infancy through to reaching adulthood at 18, our programs operate in secure, open custody, and transitional correctional facilities throughout NSW, ACT, VIC and QLD.

The RISE Program is a social and emotional learning support program that builds individual capability over a series of 6 modules, supporting students to become confident and future-focused young people. The Lead Mentor provides students with an incarcerated parent with a dedicated mentor who will provide them with support in the school environment.
The Lead Mentor position 38 hours per week, SCHADS Grade 4.1, base rate $41.52 per hour.
Key Responsibilities
- Case management of the Mentees (young people participating in the mentoring program)
- Coordinate, support and monitor of Volunteer Mentors
- Undertake regular project reporting and internal evaluation
- Maintain an open and professional relationship with all families and key stakeholders (e.g. guardians/carers) of young people in the program
- Promote SHINE for Kids’ mentoring programs through community engagement and networking
- Oversee client confidentiality and privacy requirements as per legislation and organisational policy
- Actively promote the values and objectives of SHINE for Kids at all times
- Ensure the health and safety of self and others at all times in accordance with Workplace Health and Safety policies, guidelines, legislation and regulations
- Other duties as requested, commensurate with knowledge and skills
- Contribute to the ongoing continuous improvement of SHINE for Kids service and processes
Technical Skills, Experience, and Qualifications
- Tertiary Qualifications in Human Services (Social Work, Welfare, or Community Welfare) or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated understanding of the issues and challenges that young people face
- Understanding of the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse young people and families
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to think creatively and laterally in relation to problem-solving
- Excellent project planning and coordination in a multi-task environment
- Ability to manage multiple internal and external stakeholders at one time
- Attention to detail and a hands-on approach
- Must be an Australian citizen or have a right to work in Australia
- Sound IT skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
- Satisfactory Police Check or ability to obtain one
- Satisfactory Working with Children Check or ability to obtain one
