About the role:
We are seeking an experienced lawyer to join the Office of the CEO team and provide practical and strategic advice about a wide range of legal and governance issues to executives, managers and staff across Victoria Legal Aid (VLA), and support the efficient management of VLA’s insurance and compliance functions.
You will assist with the management of litigation affecting VLA as an organisation, liaising with internal instructors and external legal advisors as required.
You will also support the management of VLA’s insurance and compliance functions by implementing claims notification procedures, responding to insurance queries from staff, and identifying legal developments as they relate to VLA’s operations.
In addition to this, you will exchange information and promote best practice with other in-house legal advisors at VLA and as required, undertake other work of the Office of the Chief Executive Officer, such as assisting with key projects for the organisation.
Please note this role is based in our Melbourne CBD office, however there is flexibility on which VLA office you can work from.
About you:
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:
- Demonstrated experience providing practical, strategic and high-quality legal advice on a variety of issues to a range of stakeholders, both independently and as part of a team
- Strong stakeholder relationship skills, including the ability to positively engage with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels
- Demonstrated experience in drafting, reviewing and providing advice on contract law issues and terms, e.g. software, intellectual property and consultancy agreements
- Well-developed research and analytical skills with a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate research outcomes.
- Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills, including the ability to present to groups on legal developments
