Area Leader Community Strengthening Programs

• Band 7 Salary $105,462.08 per annum, plus super and fortnightly RDO

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for a passionate and experienced leader to join the fast paced and dynamic Community Strengthening Unit. The Unit leads and partners with community to strengthen community capacity and build a safer, connected, just and inclusive community.

You will lead the Community Strengthening Programs team and oversee the success of many key council programs, including Community Grants, Volunteering, Community Training and a range of initiatives and projects. 

We are looking for someone who thrives in a challenging yet rewarding team environment; leadership experience in managing a team with a number of competing projects, priorities and portfolios is required. Sound knowledge of community development principles is desirable.

Your proactive nature coupled with your demonstrated leadership experience with a community focus will see you excel in this role.

This opportunity would also be suited for an experienced Team Leader to take their leadership skills and development to the next level! Reporting to the Coordinator Community Strengthening, you will be supported in your work as you lead and contribute to the ongoing success of the Community Strengthening Programs team.

What you’ll deliver

• Provide strong leadership to the Community Strengthening Programs team
• Support staff to create and deliver SMART work plans that align to strategic plans and evidenced community needs
• Oversee the delivery of Community Strengthening programs and initiatives, including Community Grants, Volunteering, Community Training, H3 Alliance (Health, Housing and Homelessness), Community Safety and Empowering Communities Initiative.
• Manage relationships with key funding partners and other stakeholders.
• Lead change management and continuous improvement.

What you’ll bring

• Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as community development or social sciences, with several years’ experience in a leadership role focused on enhancing community outcomes
• Demonstrated experience in leading teams through change and complexity
• Strategic thinking and planning skills
• Ability to exercise sound judgement and evidence informed decision-making
• Excellent communication skills with strong conflict resolution skills
• Strong project management skills
• A positive, curious and flexible mind
