The Organisation

First Peoples with disability and their families are amongst the most seriously disadvantaged and disempowered members of the Australian community. Governed by First Peoples with lived experience of disability, the First Peoples Disability Network Australia (FPDN) is an organisation of and for Australia’s First Peoples, their families, and communities.
  
FPDN proactively engages with communities around Australia and individuals internationally, advocating for the recognition, respect, protection and fulfilment of their human rights. Established informally in 2010, the founders are the leaders of the Aboriginal disability movement who have been working to uphold the rights of their people since the 1960s. The role would ideally be based in Sydney or Canberra.

The Role

The chief operating officer has the primary responsibility for the strategising, planning, implementation and running of all the financial and risk activities. As part of the executive management team this role will help shape the financial and strategic vision and inspire an organisational culture that will help the successful delivery of the strategic plan.

During a time of rapid growth for the organisation, you will support the development and implementation of systems, policies, frameworks, and processes to improve capability and respond to complex financial management issues, trends, and opportunities. Initially you will undertake a review of all finance team processes and structures and implement the required changes.

Skills Required
  
The successful candidate will possess operational management skills, and experience and capabilities in financial management, budget development, reporting, systems improvement, project costing, quality control, financial analysis, and monitoring.

You will possess financial contract management and project funding experience alongside a knowledge of accounting standards and legislation. Leadership experience with the ability to motivate and develop a geographically diverse team is a must, as is a passion for developing and facilitating policies and procedure frameworks. You also have/are;

  • Auditing skills, including the use of software, reporting and financial systems
  • Experience in interpreting and applying relevant government legislations
  • An analytical thinker, proficient in data and performance metrics and reporting
  • People skills with the ability to lead in a flexible and adaptive manner
