We work to amplify the voice of community and the sector for the fulfilment of the rights of our children.

SNAICC plays a key role in the following areas:

  • Research and policy development, with high-level leadership, policy papers and sector representation
  • Training and resource design, development and delivery including topics such as early childhood development, partnerships, family support, trauma, and cultural competency
  • Support for sector development, membership, and networking

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Director of Strategic Engagement and Communications to lead our Strategic Engagement & Communications unit. This unit plays a pivotal role in advancing SNAICC’s mission by developing and implementing comprehensive communication strategies, fostering external partnerships, and engaging stakeholders to create positive change for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

As the Director of Strategic Engagement and Communications, you will:

  • Lead the development and oversee the implementation and monitoring of SNAICC’s strategic engagement and communications strategy.
  • Provide expert communications and stakeholder engagement advice to the Executive Director (ED) Office of the CEO and senior management team.
  • Identify and support media and engagement opportunities for the CEO and SNAICC leadership.
  • Identify and implement partnership and campaign opportunities to advance SNAICC’s priorities.
  • Manage SNAICC’s public and media engagement, building and maintaining strong relationships.
  • Identify emerging issues, both threats and opportunities, and develop appropriate responses.
  • Oversee the coordination of communication tools, including websites, social media, e-bulletins, newsletters, annual reports, media releases, and other external publications.
  • Oversee the organisation of external-facing events, including the SNAICC Conference and National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day.
  • Coordinate brand management for consistency, accessibility, and broad impact of all SNAICC outputs on target stakeholders.
  • Engage with SNAICC’s policy and strategic priorities to inform the development and implementation of strategic communications plans.
  • Oversee the development of SNAICC publications and resources, including annual reports, policy papers, and other reports.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Experience: Demonstrated experience in developing organisational communications and engagement strategies, with a proven track record of delivering results. Experience developing strategic engagement campaigns to advocate for organisational priorities. Exceptional time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience with various communication tools and techniques. Ability to craft media releases, speeches, briefing papers, scripts, and other communication materials effectively.
  • Leadership and Management: Proven leadership skills and significant experience in a senior management position. Experience leading and managing teams and organisations. Provide mentoring and development opportunities to a small team.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders, including national media. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and Commitment: Broad knowledge and understanding of issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families. Commitment to the rights, needs, and aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.
  • Cultural Competency: Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and organisations in communication activities. Ability to engage respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
