The Organisation
  
The National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health (the Centre) is a new major initiative supported by the Australian Government, Department of Health, and Aged Care. The Centre is led by and based at the University of NSW, together with a consortium comprising the NSW Council for Intellectual Disability, Down Syndrome Australia, Queenslanders with Disability Network, First Peoples Disability Network (Australia), Centre for Disability Studies, Mater Intellectual Disability and Autism Service and Mater Misericordiae, University of Melbourne, and Telethon Kids Institute, as well as 20 health and disability sector partners and 36 collaborating organisations.
  
The Centre will bring together experts, resources, and research on intellectual disability healthcare, to ensure the strengths and priorities of First Nations people with intellectual disability are embedded throughout the governance, policies, systems, programs, and culture of the Centre.

The Role
  
In this role you will develop and implement the First Nations strategy working in partnership with consortium members and peak bodies providing expert advice into the planning, development, implementation, and monitoring of the Centre.
  
Reporting to the centre director you will have full oversight of the strategy and associated activities including, governance, structures, processes, high level budgets, monitoring, and reporting, creating a culturally safe, disability rights informed, accessible and inclusive organisation.
  
In this role you will also:

  • In a consultative fashion establish and operate the First Nations Advisory Committee
  • Contribute to the development, review and refinement of the communication and knowledge transfer plans, and researcher development and equity and diversity strategies
  • Develop operational plans to translate strategy into action with influence and expertise

Skills Required
  
You are well recognised for your work with First Nations people with a disability or within other areas of community health. You have a commitment to inclusion and co-design methodologies with an understanding of cultural models and social determinants of wellbeing. You have a relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent experience or equivalent competence gained through a combination of education, training, and experience.
  
You are also able to demonstrate experience in:

  • Intersectionality and developing of organisational and programmatic solutions to address discrimination
  • Interpersonal and intercultural communication whilst exercising discretion and confidentiality
  • Staff and team management
  • Stakeholder relationships, including with the community-controlled sector, peak bodies, universities and/or industry partners
