The Organisation
Employing 150 staff the Njernda Aboriginal Corporation is a Community Controlled Organisation with a primary population catchment in the Echuca and Moama Murray River region, with services reaching to the Loddon Mallee. Njernda delivers community controlled, holistic services and programs improving the physical, emotional, cultural and spiritual wellbeing of the Yorta Yorta and Wollithiga Aboriginal Community of Echuca/Moama and surrounding areas.
Njernda Aboriginal Corporation provide a variety of services to the Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander population including but not limited to health & wellbeing, aging, family services, child, youth and community services.
Njernda’s Health and Aging Unit has a strong history of planning, implementing and evaluating a range of health and ageing programs including the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) and the Home and Community Care Program (HACC). The Medical Centre is an accredited general practice who also provide outreach allied and specialist services to the community.

The Role
Reporting to the CEO and with the support of your team you will lead the operational management of the health and ageing programs with a major focus on the medical practice. Based in Echuca the medical practice provides culturally appropriate and centred care, with the best and most current treatments, methods, materials, and equipment ensuring that patients receive the highest quality of service.
You will provide expert advice to the executive on strategic planning, risk management, program operations, the health needs of the Aboriginal community and continuous quality improvement. You will ensure delivery of high-quality clinical services and the safe and effective operation of the medical practice, compliant with legislation and accreditation. You’ll create a culture and systems that support learning, including clinical placements and registrar rotations, together with a robust system of clinical governance.
You will also:
- Work with the Primary Health Network and the local hospital to understand their priorities
- Provide accurate reporting and achievement of budget and service agreements
- Commit to the use of evidence, consumer-focussed care, and the principles of co-design
Skills Required
You are currently in senior position within a medical practice, primary health care service or similar, with extensive knowledge and experience to maximise operational performance. You have an awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal societies and understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal people in contemporary Australia. Additionally, you will have the following experience:
- Comprehensive understanding of relevant funding policies, regulations and reforms, including consumer-led funding models
- High level staff management, and communication skills
- Proven ability to meet deadlines in a busy community driven environment
- Sound financial management and budgeting skills
- Complaint, and risk management
- Grant and report writing
- Compliance to appropriate legislation and standards
