The Organisation

The Conservation Council of WA (CCWA) has been a prominent and forthright voice for conservation for more than 50 years. Working with 100 environmental member organisations, communities, government, Traditional Owners, funders, industry and the media, CCWA ensures the protection and restoration of the natural environment. 

CCWA projects and campaigns range from local conservation projects to ending the era of fossil fuels, stopping biodiversity loss and promoting citizen science. CCWA is a unique mix of campaign group, environmental advocacy, hands-on conservation, and a forum for like-minded organisations and individuals.

The Role

This is a key leadership role within the WA conservation and environmental sector in which you will collaborate with members and other environment groups to initiate and facilitate new projects and campaigns whilst leading existing CCWA campaigns. You will be the spokesperson in the full range of public forums and build strategic liaisons with government and NGOs. 

Working closely with a newly appointed board president and vice president, committee members and staff, you will maintain a high standard of governance and secure CCWA’s sustainability by building highly consultative relationships with all stakeholder groups including members, funders, sponsors, supporters and other environmental organisations. 
 
You’ll inspire and collaboratively lead a passionate team, facilitating mentorship of the next generation of environmental campaigners in WA whilst developing an organisational culture to ensure CCWA is a purpose-led, supportive and empowering workplace.  

Skills Required

With demonstrated commitment to the conservation and environment sector and to CCWA’s values of kindness, courage and integrity, you are recognised for your high emotional intelligence and impactful leadership as a CEO, campaigner, policy or communications director, or similar.  
You bring a passion for protecting and conserving WA nature, preventing biodiversity loss and stopping fossil fuel expansion, together with understanding of political decision making. In addition to your strong stakeholder engagement and representational skills, your experience includes: 

  • Leading and mentoring high performing teams
  • Oversight of operations, finance, fundraising and governance
  • Change management and working collaboratively with an engaged board
  • Skills in media engagement and as a spokesperson
