The Opportunity

As the Social and Community Planning Coordinator for EGSC, you’ll play a crucial role in the development and delivery of social strategy, policy and community planning in line with Council’s broader policy direction and community needs. 

You’ll collaborate with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders including the wider community to represent the Shire, provide advice and ensure Council delivers on community initiatives.

You’ll take on:

  • A lead role for the development and monitoring of Council’s Community Planning, Reconciliation Action Plan, Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan and other relevant planning or policy documents
  • Coordinating community and internal engagement to deliver polices, plans and position statements relating to social, health and wellbeing outcomes and changing community needs
  • Ensuring Council’s ongoing community focus, supporting wellbeing and capacity building through access to information, planning and community development
  • Using data and analytics to understand current and future social and community needs

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity leading a team of three and is based from the Pyke Street office in Bairnsdale.

Things You’re Proud Of (Key Selection Criteria)

  • A relevant qualification and extensive experience in community planning, social planning, or a related field
  • Project research and management skills
  • Experience in the preparation of high level strategic, community focused plans and policy. 
  • Understanding of community and social planning and demonstrated practice of using these understandings to apply to meaningful planning and engagement projects.
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills.
  • High level knowledge of community engagement and public participation methodology and the ability to lead community engagement initiatives.
  • Excellent time management, conflict resolution and negotiating skills.
  • People management skills.
  • A current, valid Victorian driver’s licence.

If successful, you will need to undertake a police check, psychometric testing and hold a current and valid Working With Children Check. You must also be legally entitled to work in Australia.
