The organisation
Health Equity Matters is committed to ending health inequity for our communities, with HIV the core of its mission until the epidemic is over for everyone. The organisation provides leadership, coordination and support to Australia’s policy and advocacy response to HIV and gathers rapid intelligence on LGBTQIA+ health and Australia’s HIV landscape, driving effective communication and impactful programs. Internationally, Health Equity Matters shape policies and programs through implementing initiatives to strengthen civil society responses to HIV in Asia and the Pacific.
  
The position
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, you will lead the organisation’s domestic programming to achieve and move beyond the virtual elimination of HIV transmission in Australia. As the Principal Director of the Australian Program, you will implement current programs and develop fresh initiatives aligned with the National HIV Strategy, National HIV Taskforce Report recommendations to support member activities and programming aimed at virtually eliminating HIV transmission. Your role includes expanding our LGBTIQA+ health policy impact and fostering ongoing collaboration with clinical and research partners. You will manage a team of up to ten employees and oversee grant reporting requirements while representing our organisation in engagements with the Australian Government.
  
About you
To be successful in this role, you must possess the following:

  • At least six years’ senior management experience in a peak body, community or service delivery agency (required);
  • Experience working in health policy (preferably blood borne viruses and STIs, public affairs or LGBTIQA+ health;
  • Tertiary qualifications in a health-related field, sciences, law, finance, management or related field of study and/or equivalent work experience;
  • Alignment with the organisation’s values, vision, and mission, demonstrating leadership and strategic direction;
  • Excellent leadership skills and proven track record leading large and complex programs with diverse teams, stakeholders and partners;
  • Strong attention to detail, organisational skills, and expertise in program management;
  • Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation, and influencing skills, with a high degree of personal and professional integrity; and
  • A proven track record of continuous quality improvement and an ability to set quality standards.
