About the role
An exciting opportunity is currently available for a Junior Research Assistant to join the Centre for Cancer Research at Hudson Institute of Medical Research, Australia’s leading Medical Research Institute:
The Junior Research Assistant will be responsible for supporting laboratory staff and students of the Developmental and Cancer Biology laboratory in undertaking wet laboratory experiments using relevant cell and animal models of childhood solid cancers.
The Junior Research Assistant will report to the Developmental and Cancer Biology laboratory Head, A/Prof Jason Cain, and maintain close working relationships with the Developmental and Cancer Biology team.
SELECTION CRITERIA
The role will suit someone who is:
- Interested in cancer biology
- Willing to work with animal models of disease
- An ethical and compliance-oriented thinker with sound judgement
- Highly collaborative and team orientated
- Capable of problem-solving and independent thinking
- Able to effectively interpret and communicate findings
- Organised and has excellent documentation skills
Qualifications desired:
- A relevant tertiary degree and experience in laboratory research.
- Experience with mouse models of disease (preferred but not essential)
Your responsibilities include:
- Setup and perform routine experiments according to documented protocols
- Prepare cell and tissue specimens
- Work with cell and mouse preclinical cancer models
- Develop and optimise new techniques to the laboratory according to criteria specified by others
- Order supplies and monitor and manage supply levels
- Standard use of general laboratory equipment
EMPLOYMENT TERMS
This position is a fixed term contract role in a Full time (1.0 FTE) capacity. Salary is based on Research Support Group, RES X level dependent on experience. Superannuation of 11% and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
