About the organisation

Organisation Name : Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Community Transport

Established in 1987, HKCT is a client focused organisation, providing clean, safe, reliable transport services to the aged and the transport disadvantaged across Hornsby and Ku-ring-gai LGAs.  Through these activities we aim to improve the physical and mental health of our clients and reduce the likelihood of their premature admission to long-term residential care. Transport also allows our clients to build & sustain community participation, access other services and socialise.

HKCT currently has a fleet of 14 vehicles and 30 employees led by a General Manager and is government funded, primarily as part of the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) under contract with Transport for NSW.

About the role

  1. Selection Criteria

Please address the following 4 selection criteria in a short covering letter.

Required qualifications and attributes:

  1. A qualified professional in 1 of the following 5 fields
    • Health/Aged Care professional, or
    • Legal professional, or
    • IT professional, or
    • Corporate governance, or
    • Business Development/Marketing professional.
  2. Communication skills, problem solving, teamwork and leadership skills
  3. Interest in serving the community through the NFP sector
  4. Ability to commit to the time required to serve in this role
  5. Duties and Responsibilities

As a Board Member of HKCT, you will be expected to participate in:

  • constructively challenging and helping to develop proposals on strategy of HKCT;
  • setting values and standards for HKCT and establishing systems for their communication and monitoring;
  • monitoring the performance of management in meeting agreed goals and objectives and ensuring that the necessary financial and human resources are in place to enable HKCT to meet those goals and objectives;
  • satisfying yourself as to the adequacy and integrity of financial and other reporting to the board and members and that there are adequate systems of internal control; and
  • satisfying yourself that systems for identification and management of risks are robust and appropriate.

HKCT is providing care and services to people who are older, who may have a disability and may be vulnerable. Therefore, your duty and responsibility extends to the quality of service that HKCT clients receive. Your role as part of the board therefore includes assessing the extent to which clients
