About the role

Director, Centre for Equitable Housing: 0.6FTE, flexible working conditions, Melbourne.

Per Capita is seeking a new Director for the Centre for Equitable Housing (CEH), based in Melbourne.

This important role will lead the next phase of a dedicated research and policy centre within Per Capita, focussed on developing policy to fix Australia’s broken housing system and create a future in which everyone has a secure, safe, comfortable and affordable home.

About the role

  • Work closely with Per Capita’s Executive Director to devise and deliver sound economic and social policy solutions for all levels of government to support a more equitable housing system.
  • Work with leading experts, researchers and housing advocates across the nation to drive change. 
  • Connect with thought leaders and to respond to some of Australia’s most complex challenges.
  • Manage a small team and work with the ED to grow CEH’s reach and impact.

We are seeking an individual with a sound understanding of current issues in the housing system and a demonstrated background in applied policy research and development. The following attributes, skills and experiences would make you an excellent candidate. 

About you

  • 10 years’ experience in economic and/or social policy analysis within the public sector, university, government or consulting, with at least 2 years working directly in housing-related fields;
  • At least 2 years’ experience managing staff or in a 2IC role;
  • Strong analytical and numerical capabilities (Desirable: knowledge of STATA, SPSS, or EViews);
  • Excellent communications skills, with demonstrated writing skills, and a willingness to develop media presentation and public speaking skills;
  • The ability to work with complex stakeholder groups and perform under pressure in a sometimes politically sensitive and public-facing environment;
  • A tertiary qualification in a field related to housing or social policy. Desirable – post-graduate qualifications in Public Policy, Economics, Sociology or a related discipline.
