The Centre for Public Integrity is Australia’s leading anti-corruption research institute. We are honoured to announce the Stephen Charles Fellowship, created to celebrate the exceptional contribution to public life of the Honourable Stephen Charles AO KC. As a founding Board member of the Centre, Stephen Charles has been one of Australia’s most powerful advocates for integrity in public administration. His pivotal role in establishing the National Anti-Corruption Commission has left an indelible mark on Australia’s governance landscape.
After a distinguished career at the Victorian Bar and as a founding judge on Victoria’s Court of Appeal, the Hon Stephen Charles AO KC retired. As a founding board director at the Centre, he co-authored the book Keeping Them Honest in 2021, which ignited nationwide debate about the need for a National Anti-Corruption Commission. This Fellowship continues his legacy.

- Salary: $40,000 per year plus super (part-time)
- Focus: High-quality, high-impact research directed towards informing the design and resourcing of integrity commissions
- Law degree
- Relevant postgraduate qualification (completed or in progress)
- Expertise in integrity commissions, anti-corruption work, or related fields
- Exceptional legal research skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both written and verbal form
- Ability to work to tight deadlines
- Work with Australia’s leading integrity practitioners and academics
- Engage in high-impact research and advocacy
- Participate in nationwide discussions on public integrity
