Senior Legal Counsel – Not-for-Profit

At The Breakthrough Office, we support Not-for-Profit organisations by managing their end-to-end accounting, payroll, HR, and governance – allowing them to focus on their core purpose. We believe that in supporting organisations to achieve their breakthrough, their communities will also see breakthrough. We are seeking a highly skilled, Senior Legal Counsel to join our growing team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing legal advice and support to our team and NFP clients, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations.

Responsibilities:

• Provide legal advice and support to not-for-profit clients on a wide range of legal matters, including governance, compliance, contracts, and risk management.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and other legal documents.
• Ensure the organisation’s operations comply with relevant laws and regulations.
• Manage and oversee legal aspects of funding agreements, grants, and partnerships.
• Work closely with other departments to develop and implement policies and procedures.
• Manage outside counsel, as necessary.
• Stay updated on legal trends and developments affecting the not-for-profit sector.

Qualifications:

• Degree from an accredited law school.
• Unrestricted practicing certificate in Victoria.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a practicing solicitor.
• NFP experience is highly regarded.
• Strong knowledge of not-for-profit laws, regulations, and best practices.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Commitment to the mission and values of the not-for-profit sector.
