About the organisation

Organisation Name : Frontier Services

Frontier Services is Australia’s oldest bush charity, standing alongside people in remote Australia, through the joys and struggles of life since 1912. We dream of an Australia where everyone who lives in these areas is cared for and supported and has access to help when they need it.

People living in remote areas experience greater isolation, have limited access to support services, and are more vulnerable to crises. Through our national network of Bush Chaplains and our Outback Links volunteer assistance program, we travel the distance to show up and stand with people in the bush.

About the role

Are you passionate about making a tangible difference in the lives of people living in rural and remote Australia? Do you thrive on building strong community connections, are highly organised, enjoy project management and leading teams? Frontier Services is seeking a dedicated and motivated individual to join our Outback Links team as a Volunteer Programs Coordinator.

Outback Links is our national volunteer program that connects dedicated volunteers with communities and individuals in need of practical support, helping to build resilience and improve lives across the outback.

Working within the Outback Links team, the purpose of this role is to effectively coordinate, grow, and deliver Outback Links group projects across rural and remote Australia. This will involve developing strong relationships with communities and property owners in need of practical support and then leading and coordinating teams of volunteers to assist in the delivery of that support. Our aim is to empower people in remote areas who are facing hardship to build their resilience and capacity to lead healthy and fulfilled lives.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Identify needs and opportunities in rural and remote communities and properties that can benefit from volunteer support.
  • Develop volunteer programs based on these needs and the availability of volunteers.
  • Develop relationships with key stakeholders to support the delivery of community-focused volunteer programs.
  • Oversee the effective delivery of volunteer programs on the ground.
  • Manage risks and ensure the safety and well-being of support recipients, volunteers, and partner organisations.
  • Attract new volunteers and expand the range of community-focused volunteer programs.
  • Maintain program administration, program budgets and reporting.
  • Support our communications team in telling the stories of our work.

Key Attributes Required:

  • A desire to support people in rural and remote Australia to address the hardships and challenges they face.
  • A willingness to embrace challenges and to work flexibly.
  • Ability to communicate compassionately and confidently and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Culturally sensitive and have an understanding of the diverse cultural backgrounds across rural and remote Australia, in particular, First Nations people.
  • Strong leadership skills to confidently lead and motivate individuals.
  • A willingness to travel frequently around rural and remote Australia.
  • A Driver’s License and the ability to stay away from home regularly are essential.
  • A strong commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.

The role will be regionally based, with the successful applicant working primarily from their home office and visiting the National Office in Sydney infrequently as required.

The role will ideally be located in either:

  • Southern regional NSW, working across NSW, ACT and Victoria, or
  • Central Regional QLD, working across QLD

For the right applicant, we are flexible about your location and encourage applicants across NSW, VIC, and QLD to apply.
