About the organisation
DCA (Deaf Children Australia) is a not-for-profit organisation. We deliver a range of resources, programs, and events dedicated to supporting families with deaf and hard of hearing children. Our vision is to create a world where children & young people who are deaf or hard of hearing have every opportunity to achieve positive life outcomes.
We proudly help families and young people build confidence and connections with people travelling a similar path and champion the growth and social inclusion of deaf and hard-of-hearing children and young people via transformative programs and services.
About the role
This is an unpaid role (voluntary) and is open to applicants Australia-wide. The DCA Board, is looking for expressions of interest from individuals keen to make a difference and champion the vision of DCA within Australia. The Board governs the organisation and provides the strategic direction and financial sustainability of DCA. With a strong commitment to integrity, professionalism, and a practice of supporting continuous improvement, as a Board member you will play a pivotal role in shaping priorities, ensuring governance & risk oversight, adherence and delivery against the strategic imperatives, endorsing commercial strategic decisions and assessing the financial performance of DCA to ensure we endure for generations to come.
Board directors meet monthly, around a preset schedule of Board & sub-committee meeting dates. Preparedness is an expectation to ensure active participation in these meetings. The board is looking for applicants with skills & experience to ensure a diversity in views, leading to stronger decision making & exceptional governance.
How to apply
About You
Applicants ideally should bring previous Board experience to help balance the existing skill set, including a passion and interest in making a difference for children and young people who are deaf or hard of hearing. The Board is looking for applicants with a range of skills including:
- Strategic & analytical acumen
- Finance / Accounting Management
- Governance / Process experience
- Legal Background
- Risk and Auditing experience
- Human Resource Experiences
- Professional Board Experience
- Asset Management Experience
A successful applicant should be a clear communicator, an active listener and be able to confidently share observations, thoughts and recommendations with the rest of the Board. The applicant should have empathy as a core value and possess strong collaboration skills, all with the goal of building a strong board of the future.
DCA is a child-safe organisation, we take the safety and wellbeing of children very seriously. Accordingly, prior to commencing at DCA, you will be required to undertake several checks including, but not limited to; Working with Children Check, NDIS Worker Screening Check , Police Check and an International Police Check if you have resided or worked overseas in the last 10 years.
