About the organisation
MPA is Australia’s leading melanoma and skin cancer consumer organisation and supports individuals, families and carers affected by melanoma, providing essential support and information, community connections, and advocacy. Our purpose is to support, connect and advocate for Australians affected by melanoma and work towards its prevention.
Australia has one of the highest melanoma rates globally, yet access to consistent support remains alarmingly limited. MPA is committed to changing this through targeted initiatives, advocacy, and partnerships.
About the role
Lead the Fight Against Melanoma: Director at Melanoma Patients Australia (MPA)
Role: Chair, Melanoma Patients Australia
Melanoma Patients Australia (MPA) is on a mission to bridge a critical gap in the care journey: providing world-class, compassionate support for Australians affected by melanoma. With a new CEO commencing in February and a bold strategy in place, we are poised to amplify our impact and advocate for much-needed change in the melanoma care landscape.
We are seeking an exceptional leader to join our volunteer Board as Chair and guide MPA’s mission to address this pressing unmet need while driving organisational growth and influence.
People with lived experience of the impact of melanoma are encouraged to apply.
Why Join MPA?

Your leadership will help deliver life-changing support to thousands of Australians affected by melanoma, filling a critical gap in the care continuum.
The Opportunity
As Chair, you will lead MPA’s Board and collaborate with our team to deliver innovative programs, build partnerships, and strengthen advocacy efforts. Your influence, within Federal Government circles and with potential donors, will be pivotal in securing resources and shaping policy to address post-diagnosis support gaps.

- Governance: Ensure robust governance practices, safeguarding MPA’s integrity and performance.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with patient representatives, government bodies, corporate partners, and the healthcare community to advance MPA’s vision.
- Advocacy: Champion all aspects of patient support as a national priority and work with the MPA CEO, staff and Board to represent MPA’s voice in media, policy discussions, and public forums.
About You
- Experience: Proven leadership at an executive or board level, ideally within healthcare, not-for-profit, or advocacy sectors.
- Vision: A strategic thinker passionate about addressing gaps in melanoma care.
- Governance Expertise: Deep understanding of board responsibilities and best practices.
Desirable Attributes
- Networks: Strong Federal Government connections and a history of influencing policy.
- Revenue growth: Proven track record in revenue generation and income growth, including philanthropic fundraising and social enterprise initiatives.
