Melbourne City Mission (MCM) are a leading community support organisation working alongside people to live the life they aspire to, their way, providing a broad range of support in: Homelessness, Early Years, Disability, Early Childhood Intervention Services, Education, Palliative Care and Mental Health service areas. Since 1854, MCM has been striving for those experiencing disadvantage to live their life, their way.

About the Role: 

As the Head of Fundraising you will lead a small team whilst working closely with the GM of Philanthropy, Partnerships and Brand and be part of the Senior Leadership team. The role has responsibility for management of fundraising income and reporting along with individual giving management including donor acquisition and stewardship. This role works with MCM leaders to identify funding opportunities and develop compelling cases for support, helping meet annual budgets and achieve a five-year growth program. 
Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
  • Fundraising Strategy and Implementation: develop a comprehensive individual fundraising strategy for each MCM entity supported by fundraising plans, reports, Board presentations, budgets and financial reporting
  • Stakeholder Management/Engagement: build and manage donor relationships, foster a donor-centric culture, support fundraising team performance, collaborate on appeals and promotional materials, and align fundraising efforts with organisational strategies and stakeholder needs
  • People & Performance Management: provide effective leadership and management of the fundraising team
  • Governance, Risk & Compliance, Quality Management: ensure all fundraising activities comply with MCM’s values, policies, legislative standards, and regulatory requirements while maintaining database integrity, privacy, and public trust
  • Operational Excellence: Lead data-driven fundraising strategies, embed innovation, ensure accurate reporting, collaborate across teams to track funding progress, and support donor lead identification and financial reconciliation

About You:

As an experienced Fundraising Manager, you will be passionate about supporting organisational outcomes, be solutions oriented, have a methodical approach and think outside the box. The ideal candidate will have:
  • Tertiary qualification or extensive experience with 10+ years managing fundraising and donor programs
  • Proven expertise in designing and optimising fundraising strategies, donor engagement, and segmentation techniques
  • Strong organisational, time management, and multitasking skills with a track record of meeting deadlines and budgets
  • Proactive, innovative, and strategic thinker with a focus on improving fundraising operations and processes
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build effective relationships within teams and with donors
  • Adaptability to evolving technology and industry trends, ensuring alignment with best practices and regulations
