About the role
Arrest Referral Worker
Employment Type: Fixed-Term Part Time
Location: Victorian Pride Centre, St Kilda (with flexibility to work across multiple sites as required)
Are you ready to challenge the status quo and advocate for some of the most marginalised members of our community? Better Health Network’s Arrest Referral Program (ARP) is seeking a passionate and skilled Arrest Referral Worker to support individuals involved in the justice system, many of whom face challenges such as homelessness, substance use, and mental illness.
A Role Like No Other
This is not your average support worker role. Working as part of Resourcing health & Education in the sex industry (RhED), you’ll take an outreach-first approach, meeting people where they are—on the streets, in courts, and in correctional facilities. Your mission? Break the cycle of criminalisation by providing pathways to health and social services.
What You’ll Do
- Advocate for and support individuals involved in the criminal justice system
- Provide harm minimisation strategies to improve long-term wellbeing
- Offer outreach-based engagement, including late-night and foot patrols
- Connect clients to essential health, housing, and welfare services
- Work closely with courts, legal services, and justice programs
About You
- Tertiary qualification in social work, psychology, criminology, or a related field
- Experience working with criminalised and marginalised communities
- Deep understanding of the justice system and harm minimisation principles
- Strong interpersonal and advocacy skills to engage with high-risk populations
- Valid Victorian Driver’s Licence
Lived experience in the sex industry is highly regarded.
