About the organisation
The Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust (GMCT) is a community-led, not-for-profit organisation, that cares for the history and future of memorial parklands across the North, West and East of the Greater Melbourne area.
About the role
Be a voice for your community – join GMCT’s Community Advisory Committee! The Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust (GMCT) is a community-led, not-for-profit organisation, that cares for the history and future of memorial parklands across the North, West and East of the Greater Melbourne area. Each year, we help over 12,000 families – of all cultures and faiths – plan and prepare for funeral, cremation, interment and memorial services. To ensure we continue to meet the needs of our diverse and multicultural communities, we have a Community Advisory Committee (CAC) and we’re looking for new members! About this role: This is a voluntary role that will give successful applicants an opportunity to represent the views of their community at a senior level, to influence the decisions and strategies of this vital public service, and to build an understanding of good governance and committee operations. Working alongside CAC Chair Liz Beattie, a former politician and member of the Victorian legislative assembly, you will provide invaluable guidance and advice to GMCT as it seeks to develop services and products that will serve Melbourne’s communities for generations to come. What we’re looking for: · People of diverse religious, cultural, and social backgrounds who can demonstrate their strong community connections. · Strategic thinkers with an eye for detail. · A genuine interest in GMCT and our purpose to provide the final care for peoples’ loved ones, with dignity and kindness. To respect all peoples, our heritage, our communities and the environment. · Integrity, emotional intelligence, and good judgement. · Capacity to commit to attending four Committee meetings annually (February, May, August, and November) and pre-reading committee briefs sent one week before each meeting. We welcome and encourage applications from diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, LGBTQIA+, people with disability and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Remuneration All Committee members serve in a voluntary (unpaid) capacity. Travel expenses, where required, are reimbursed by GMCT. Period of appointment The term for Committee positions is three years with the possibility of renewal. Quarterly meetings are held from 3–5.30pm on a Wednesday in February, May, August, and November. Are you interested in joining the discussion? Apply here. Applications close at 5pm on 31 March 2025.
