About the role
Reporting into the Senior Manager, Communications and Engagement, the Social Media Coordinator is part of a team of storytellers who work hard to raise the profile of BSL’s leadership on policy reform, our partnerships with communities, our impactful programs and the lived experiences and expertise of the people we advocate alongside.
We’re looking for someone who can turn complex issues into impactful digital content. You’ll help shape how BSL shows up online—elevating community voices, highlighting policy and program solutions, and bringing our advocacy for an Australia free of poverty to life through compelling storytelling.
This role is perfect for someone who lives and breathes social media, has a deep commitment to social justice, and knows how to tell stories and create written and visual content that moves people—not just to feel, but to act.
Core duties include:
- Supporting the refinement and implementation of an organisation-wide social media strategy.
- Ideation, creation and planning of all organic social media content across BSL’s main social media channels and supporting staff responsible for program-specific channels, to align messaging and create a unified brand presence and consistent voice.
- Identifying appropriate, relevant and timely content opportunities across all relevant social channels, including attending events, interviewing participants, stakeholder liaison and highlighting program impacts/milestones.
- Creating and producing high-quality written and visual content (infographics, short-form videos, reels) and supporting digital assets.
- Working with internal teams to develop paid social media advertising campaigns in line with broader marketing strategies.

What we are looking for
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual who has a passion for supporting the mission of BSL and delivering excellence in your role.
To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone who has the following key skills and experiences:
- Significant experience in social media coordination, ideally in a large organisation (community or not-for-profit organisation highly regarded).
- Excellent written and visual storytelling skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas into clear, impactful social media content and campaigns.
- In-depth understanding of each social media advertising platform, including targeting requirements, creative specifications, budget needs and a proven ability to achieve results.
- Proficiency in Canva and Adobe Creative Suite, with InDesign, and proven experience creating effective and high-quality written and visual content.
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, or similar.
- A commitment to social justice and maintaining and supporting child safety, equity, inclusion, and cultural safety.
