Justice Connect Intake (JCI) is a newly created team that sits within our wider Innovation Program to provide specialist intake, triage, outreach and referrals. The team ensures that people receive a streamlined, consistent, and impactful response - enabled by digital systems, and underpinned by human-centered legal expertise.

About the role

In this role, you’ll work to

  • Support the smooth, timely, and people-centred operation of our new Justice Connect Intake team.
  • Working closely with Justice Connect Intake lawyers and under the supervision of the Principal Lawyer, this role ensures that help-seeker inquiries are effectively logged, tracked, and progressed through to referral, while maintaining a high standard of responsiveness and care.
  • This is a hands-on role that balances administrative coordination with client-facing interaction. The paralegal is often the first point of contact for people seeking legal help, and
  • It plays a vital role in maintaining system accuracy, coordinating and undertaking intake, and supporting high-volume triage and referral workflows. It’s a great opportunity for someone who thrives in a team environment, is open to learning new tools and systems, and is committed to improving access to legal help.

You’ll bring to the team experience in the following areas:

  • Client centered approach to supporting a diverse range of people seeking legal support through our intake and triage processes.
  • High-quality interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to build relationships and communicate with a range of internal and external stakeholders in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Strong planning and prioritisation skills, effectively managing multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines.

Expertise that you may have that would support our team:

  • Bachelor of Laws Degree (or final or near-final year student enrolled in Bachelor of Laws/JD), or other relevant qualification or experience.
  • Sound computer skills within a legal practice environment (knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics desirable).

Candidates will need to demonstrate commitment to Justice Connect’s vision, strategy and values.

A week in this role

If you were here last week, you would have:

  • Managed help-seekers inquiries via phone, email, and digital intake systems, to collect information necessary for eligibility assessments, providing general information and referring legal matters to lawyers as appropriate.
  • Met with the Principal Lawyer to discuss client intakes and assist with determining eligibility for assistance.
  • Supported with the maintenance of inquiry related data to ensure intake systems are accurate and up to date.
  • Contributed to continuous improvement efforts of the team by identifying common issues, system gaps, or emerging needs.
  • Participated in team planning and feedback activities, and support a collaborative, values-aligned team culture.

Important role information

The position reports to the Lawyer (level 2) of the Justice Connect Intake team.

Employment is part time (30 hours per week) for 12 months.  

The salary for this role is $75,109.65 per annum (pro rata) (plus 12% superannuation) with annual leave loading and generous salary packaging options.  

This role can be based at our Melbourne or Sydney CBD offices with 40% of the month in the workplace with hybrid working arrangements.
