About the organisation
The Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA) is the national peak body representing healthcare professionals in diabetes education, management and care. We are also the regulatory body for Credentialled Diabetes Educators (CDEs).
The ADEA leads and advocates for best practice, evidence-based diabetes education and care nationally. We are a national association with our administration office in Canberra. As a member organisation we provide leadership and support for healthcare professionals who practice within the specialty field of diabetes education and care. About the role
The Head of Education and Professional Standards is responsible for leading ADEA’s education strategy, ensuring the design, delivery, and evaluation of high-quality, evidence-based professional development offerings for diabetes educators. This includes oversight of educational content, ensuring its alignment with professional standards, and leadership of all education-related committees and advisory groups. Working in close collaboration with the Head of Member Services and Partnerships, this role ensures that ADEA’s educational offerings support credentialling requirements, clinical excellence, and continuing professional development across the membership.
This senior position is part of the ADEA Executive Team and reports to the CEO.
Key Responsibilities
Education Strategy and Delivery
- Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of ADEA’s education and learning strategy.
- Ensure all education offerings meet current clinical and evidence-based guidelines, adult learning principles, and professional standards.
- Oversee the development and continuous improvement of online and in-person learning activities and events including microcredentials, workshops, and conference content.
- Oversee the development of the quarterly ADEA ADE publication.
Professional Standards and Accreditation
- Oversee ADEA’s education-related committees, including university engagement, Education Committee and Course Accreditation and Standards of Practice (CASP) Committee.
- Oversee ADEA’s research advisory group.
- Oversee the endorsement framework for external education providers and ensure endorsed courses meet ADEA’s quality benchmarks, including contribution to the development and review of national standards for diabetes education and university program accreditation.
NDSS Contract Oversight
- Collaborate with the NDSS Program Manager to ensure the delivery of the education components within ADEA’s responsibilities under the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS).
- Work with the CEO to ensure that reports on performance indicators and contractual obligations related to the NDSS agreement.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Work with the Head of Member Services and Partnerships to ensure that Education content aligns with sponsor requirements as needed.
- Oversee the contracted educational deliverables and assure the on-time delivery of relevant contracted activities.
People, Leadership and Organisational Culture
- Manage and develop the members of the Education and NDSS Teams to perform at optimal levels of efficiency and effectiveness.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with ADEA HR policies, performance frameworks, and professional standards.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- Minimum five years of experience in education management position, including experience in developing and implementing education, LMS and using analytics to inform strategic decision making
- An understanding of the issues affecting people with diabetes and chronic conditions
- Health professional, health management, or public health experience
- Proven leadership and supervisory ability, with experience leading a team
Highly Desirable:
- Tertiary professional qualifications
- Credentialled Diabetes Educator
- Experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders
- Experience with grants and grant management
Desirable:
- Experience in the not-for-profit, member-based organisation, association, peak body or health sector
- Knowledge of Department of Health funding and governance
