Senior Finance Officer

Employment Type: Ongoing and subject to sufficient funding

We are looking for a Senior Finance Officer to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in maintaining Volunteering Australia’s financial health and integrity, enabling the organisation to advance its strategic objectives in supporting volunteering across Australia.

About the role

The Senior Finance Officer is a key operational role responsible for the day-to-day financial management of Volunteering Australia. Working under the general direction of the Operations Director, the Senior Finance Officer ensures sound accounting practices, financial compliance, and accurate reporting to support Volunteering Australia’s mission.

This role offers an opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven not-for-profit environment. A positive, proactive attitude, strong attention to detail, and collaborative approach are essential, as the Senior Finance Officer works closely with internal teams and external advisors to meet organisational goals.

What you will bring

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in accounting, finance, or a related field and at least 3-4 years of relevant experience; or a diploma or other formal qualification with substantial years of experience in a similar finance role.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing core accounting functions in an organisation of similar nature and/or scale.
  • Good knowledge of the statutory financial requirements for Australian NFPs.
  • Ability to prepare clear, accurate and timely financial reports to analyse and explain financial data and proven skills in budgeting and forecasting.
  • High proficiency in accounting software (preferably Xero), advanced MS Excel skills and solid general IT literacy (Microsoft 365 suite).

In addition to this, you will have:

  • Strong organisational skills to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • High level of integrity, ethics and discretion, especially when handling sensitive financial data and payroll information.
  • Attention to detail to ensure financial records are correct.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the values and mission of Volunteering Australia.
