About the role
Purpose of Role
The Audit and Risk Committee (ARC) of the Board of RSL NSW has been established in accordance with the RSL NSW Constitution. The ARC has up to two (2) independent members and typically meet as a Committee four (4) times per year.
Positions on the ARC are undertaken on a voluntary basis.
The Committee is responsible to the Board of RSL NSW for leadership, strategy and assurance in relation to:
•the external reporting and audit of the financial information of RSL NSW head office, or ANZAC House (RSL NSW);
•the internal control environment of RSL NSW, including the internal audit function, if any;
•RSL NSW’s risk management approach including risk appetite, the risk management framework, risk reviews, and the policies and controls for risk management, including the effectiveness of, and compliance with, the Board’s risk appetite and those policies and controls;
•RSL NSW’s insurance program (risk transfer); •investment management and performance;
•RSL NSW’s WHS obligations and promoting a culture of safety; and
•promoting a culture of compliance by RSL NSW and its staff.
Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities of this position are to contribute to the Committee by providing:
•oversight of Internal and External Audit programmes including the audit schedule and annual financial statements.
•identification and strategic advice on Risk Management.
•demonstrated support to RSL NSW Board for Strategic Business Planning and business development.
•timely advice and recommendations to the RSL NSW in relation to investment management and investment risk.
•support for RSL NSW compliance generally and in particular in relation to relevant Workplace Health and Safety legislation.
Skills, Experience and Attributes
Essential
•Qualifications in accounting, finance, audit, insurance, investment, law or a related field.
•Knowledge of legal and governance requirements in the Not-for-Profit sector. •Knowledge of finance and accounting principles.
•Understanding of the principles of Risk Management.
•Familiarity and practical experience in strategic business planning and business case development.
•An understanding of NSW Workplace Health and Safety legislation.
Desirable
•Veteran of the Australian Defence Force.
•Previous experience working within the Not-for-Profit sector and or/ membership associations or federated organisations.
•Conversant with business applications of technology (eg. Digital).
•A working knowledge of the principles of Corporate Social Responsibility.
