About the role

volunteers can either (or both) get involved with teaching school children at a local primary school, or do informal teaching to those who never got the
chance to attend school. Most people in the area are
illiterate, even many children are denied school and send to
the bush to graze livestock instead (as education is not
very much valued yet, they have not yet seen the benefits of
education), but they are interested in learning things like
learning how to read and write, simple calculations, English
language or health issues. Those are the ones you can teach
as part of the “Informal Education/Advisory Programme”
or even organize sporting competitions or entertainment
events for them.
Volunteers can also innovate their own programmes or even sports of their interest

About the organisation

Organisation name : Lchokuti Foundation

We are a community based organization based in Northern  and coastal Kenya.  We are support the rural communities through  volunteering opportunities with school children, non-school going children, as well as morans, women and others. The foundation has various programmes consisting of an “Informal Education/Advisory Programme”, a “School Programme”, a “Business Programme” and a “Community Building Projects Programme”. The first involves health, life skills, literacy etc. advise, whereas the second is based at Arloste community school. The school was started in 2013 by the current head teacher and teaching was done under a tree. It was founded due to overload in the surrounding schools.  The school has insufficient  learning materials thus  many pupils are left to idle, hence  creating noise and other disturbances in the same room. The school does not also have enough resources to employ teachers hence the need to have volunteers .
