About the organisation

Organisation name : Great Lakes Agency for Peace and Development (GLAPD)

Great Lakes Agency for Peace and Development GLAPD (or ’glah-ped’) is a not-for-profit, secular and non-political organisation that helps migrants, refugees and asylum seekers from the Great Lakes region of Africa and beyond settle in Australia.

Our mission

Is to improve the lives of migrants and refugees by affording them a purposeful life that alleviates unemployment and social isolation, celebrates their contributions to Australia, and supports them to become fully participating citizens both economically and socially.

Our areas of focus

Our community services and initiatives aim to help migrants and refugees achieve better living standards in Australia while supporting them through the process of integrating and learning how to do things in a new country.

To operationalize the mission, we have three major programs

  1. Regional settlement program that assists Refugees, Asylum seekers and Migrants to settle in regional areas and support depopulating regional towns
  2. Migrant Services, that help new arrivals in Australia to settle well, through employment, Casework support, Domestic Violence support and Youth support
  3. Community Development and Social cohesion to support Community organization in capacity building, advocacy and strengthening Governance
  4. Mini-Research program, that initiates community related research projects and evaluations.
