About the role
We are seeking two new members to join a supportive management committee of an organisation with a sustained presence and strong reputation in the local community. We have two vacancies, including a general committee member and a chair person.
The committee is responsible for controlling and managing the affairs of the organization. As a member of the board, you would commit to:
● attend regular management committee meetings (approximately 6 per year)
● attend sub committee meetings (approximately 6 per year)
● review and provide feedback for key documents such as grant applications, business plans, budgets
● monitor, develop and review strategic plans
● participate and attend in strategic workshops when required (1-2 per year)
We are seeking applicants with the following areas of expertise:
● Legal (intellectual property, contract law, arts law) and Governance
● Compliance and Risk Management
● Fundraising, Sponsorship and Philanthropy
● Public Relations and Communications
Selection criteria
Essential:
● Passion/commitment and understanding of the strengths and challenges of the young people in the communities we serve
● Knowledge of good governance and compliance practices
● Understanding of goals and principles of community cultural development
● Comprehensive understanding and experience with business management
● Experience in chairing, facilitating and leading discussions and meetings
● Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
● Available to be an active participant on the management committee including extra curricular activities e.g. attend events, meetings and functions
Desirable:
● Outgoing advocate for community arts and culture
● Experience as board member or management committee member in a Not for Profit
● knowledge and experience in community and organisational capacity building
● Strong network to provide support and/or fundraising opportunities
● Community connections to enhance the organisation’s capacity and support base e.g. media, education, arts, corporate, political
● Sound financial literacy – understand key financial reports
