About the role

Join the Board of Synapse- Australia’s Brain Injury Organisation supporting people with brain injury to achieve quality of life, self-determination, and choice.   

  • This a collaborative, non-operational, strategic Board of Governance
  • Bring governance, commercial judgement and instinct, critical thinking, creativity, strategic intelligence and or social enterprise experience.
  • This voluntary Board meets 6 times per annum (virtually).

 

While strategic skills and leadership experience are highly valued, the Board is also seeking diversity in life experience, age, thinking styles, qualifications, and skills.  Applicants with the relevant skills and personal attributes, and a desire to make a difference to the lives of people with a brain injury will be considered.  People with lived experience of brain injury, people who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, individuals from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people who identify as LGBTQI and women are especially encouraged to apply.   

Two Non-Executive Director positions are available on this dynamic Board. 

The successful candidates will be seasoned leaders able to demonstrate good business acumen and an ability to synthesise complex information.  They will have exceptional interpersonal skills, being collaborative yet curious and courageous.  Bringing critical thinking, creativity, and strategic awareness to the role as an active contributor with a genuine interest in Synapse and its business.  

Respectful, compassionate, and insightful, they will bring to the table the skills of a strategist and original thinker with a growth mindset.  Service, accountability, kindness, and a commitment to social justice will be evident in the personal values they live daily. 

These opportunities are for a two year term, with re-election opportunity. Meetings are held bi-monthly on the last Monday of the month. Reimbursements for reasonable expenses are available. The time commitment is approximately six (6) hours per month including meetings and written board related correspondence.

Synapse – Australia’s Brain Injury Organisation is a profit for purpose organisation that was established over 35 years ago.  It has grown to employ over 150 people. It provides a range of services nationally, including information and referral, specialist supports, National Disability Scheme (NDIS) services, advocacy, housing, and targeted research activities.  Synapse promotes quality of life, self-determination, and choice.  Our mission is to ensure the rights of people impacted by brain injury, by connecting knowledge, policy, services, and systems.
