About the role
If you’re planning to move to a new house, the first thing you need to consider is hiring a Removalists company. Usually, we just think of moving ideas such as packing and unpacking as the main thing for settling in, it will be done once you move into a new house. Do it beforehand, instead of waiting and thinking of doing it later. As an owner, you need to get aware of the house, learn it’s working, and prioritise which tasks need to be taken care of first.
Unpack Essentials: Start with your essentials box – that’s why you packed it. This should include toiletries, medications, basic cooking utensils, and anything else you might need immediately.
Check Utilities: Ensure that all utilities are working properly, including electricity, water, heating, and cooling. Also, check that your internet and phone services are set up if you have arranged for them.
Inspect Your Belongings: Check your furniture and other items for any possible damage during the move. If you hired a moving company and find damage, contact them immediately.
Set Up Your Bed: One of the first things you should set up is your bed. After a long day of moving, you’ll want a comfortable place to sleep.
Prioritize Unpacking: You don’t need to unpack everything at once. Start with the most important rooms like the kitchen and bathrooms. Then move on to the bedrooms and living room.
Secure Your Home: Change the locks if possible, since you can’t be sure who else has keys to your house. Also, check that all doors and windows lock properly. If you have a security system, make sure it’s working and set it up.
Get to Know Your Home: Locate the main water shut-off valve, the circuit breaker box, and the gas shut-off valve if you have gas appliances. It’s important to know where these are in case of an emergency.
Update Your Address: If you haven’t already done so, now is the time to update your address with the post office, your employer, bank, credit card companies, insurance providers, and any subscription services you use.
Register Your Car: If you’ve moved to a new state, you’ll need to register your car and update your driver’s license.
Introduce Yourself: Meet your neighbors and introduce yourself. They can be a great source of local movers information and can help you feel more at home in your new neighborhood.
Explore the Neighborhood: Find out where the nearest grocery store, hospital, park, and other amenities are located. Familiarize yourself with the routes to your workplace, children’s school, etc.
Deep Clean: Even if your home appears to be clean, it’s always a good idea to deep clean before you get completely settled in. It’s much easier to clean an empty room than one filled with furniture.
Remember, moving into a new home is a process. It can take weeks, if not months, to fully unpack and settle in. Prioritize what needs to be done and take it one step at a time.
