About the role

Join DEFEND as a Legal Advocate to lead efforts in promoting the protection of children and vulnerable individuals from online predators. In this role, you will work closely with government officials, policymakers, and other stakeholders in Australia to influence and develop strategies for protecting vulnerable populations. Your work will be crucial in shaping policies and advocating for legislative changes that enhance online safety. Through engaging with government officials and MPs in Australia in this pivotal role, you will reach out to policymakers, advocate for legislative changes, and drive initiatives that protect vulnerable individuals. Your work will be instrumental in building strong governmental support for DEFEND’s mission.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and Implement Advocacy Strategies: Design and execute comprehensive advocacy plans that align with DEFEND’s mission and goals.
  • Build Relationships with MPs and Government Representatives: Establish and maintain strong connections with key political figures and organizations to advocate for policy changes.
  • Monitor and Analyze Policy Developments: Follow current legislative trends, policy changes, and public opinions that impact online safety for vulnerable populations.
  • Draft Policy Recommendations: Create detailed documents outlining DEFEND’s stance on various issues related to online safety.
  • Advocate for Legislative Change: Work closely with government officials to advocate for policies and laws that enhance online safety, such as increasing the minimum age requirement for social media use.
  • Drive Petitions: Lead efforts to create and promote petitions that garner public and governmental support for legislative changes.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in Advocacy, Public Policy, or Related Fields: Proven track record in a similar role, ideally within a non-profit or governmental organization.
  • Strong Communication and Networking Skills: Ability to articulate complex issues clearly and build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Passionate about Child Protection and Internet Safety: Deep commitment to DEFEND’s mission and values.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to assess and interpret policy documents and legislative changes.
