About the role

Role Description: TLG Board Member

Who we are looking for

We are seeing candidates who meet all of the following criteria:

  • A passion for, TLG’s vision and mission and demonstrated alignment with TLG’s values
  • Qualifications and/or demonstrated work experience that is relevant to the goals, programs and governance of TLG.
  • Understanding of responsible financial management and/or willingness to undertake appropriate financial training 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build positive relationships with a diverse range of people and stakeholders 
  • Exceptionally high levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour
  • Ability to meet the 4 hours monthly time commitment

  • Volunteer Police Clearance
  • Working With Children’s Check
  • A Director Identification Number

Areas of Expertise 

We encourage all applicants who meet the requirements above to apply as we can provide training to the right candidate. 

To complement the skills and expertise of our Board of Directors, one or more of the following would be considered highly desirable:

  • Relevant experience working in the charity or not-for-profit sector that would provide insight into the operations, strategy and overall performance of the organisation.
  • Participation and/or management of formal volunteering programs.
  • Qualifications, knowledge of and/or experience in the development and implementation of best practice public relations and communication concepts and strategies. 
  • Qualifications, knowledge of and/or experience working with young people from a range of backgrounds
  • Experience and/or understanding of living or working in rural, regional and remote Australia

The following additional areas of skill and experience would also be desirable:

  • Experience that reflects identifying, creating and implementing opportunities for business growth.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience of working in, or engaging with tertiary institutions
  • Experience in and/or knowledge of government processes and public policy, and stakeholder engagement with Government
  • Experience in best practice human resource management systems, policies and procedures and/or qualifications in this area of expertise.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in the application and development of information technology-related innovation

About Us

Teach Learn Grow is a youth-focussed charity committed to addressing barriers preventing rural regional and remote students from reaching their potential. TLG’s innovation, curriculum-aligned tutoring and mentoring programs are hosted in rural and remote primary schools across WA and NSW. These programs are facilitated by dedicated student volunteers from universities, TAFE and high schools, who are trained to provide individualised, one-on-one support to help students improve their educational outcomes and expand their aspirations for the future.  

About Our Board

The TLG Board of Directors is comprised of a diverse team of leaders committed to supporting TLG’s vision and mission, and effective governance according to the organisation’s Rules of Association. The Board meets every two months (in-person and online) and outside of the Board meetings, Board members contribute to the organisation by contributing to various projects (such as policy development), attending TLG volunteer and/or stakeholder events and providing support and advice to staff as required. The expected time commitment is four hours per month on average.

Recruitment Process

Candidates who are interested in the role should submit an expression of interest at their earliest convenience. Those most suitable candidates for the position will be shortlisted and invited to submit their CV for consideration and to meet with the CEO and/or Chairperson to discuss the nature of the role and the applicant’s suitability. Any appointment to the Board is subject to a successful vote from members of the Board. 

TLG reserves the right to close the recruitment process earlier than advertised if a suitable candidate is found.
